Actual transfer news! Tottenham Hotspur academy product, central defender, and excellently-bearded ginger Connor Ogilvie is heading out on loan once again, this time on a six month contract with League One club Gillingham. You may recall that Spurs blitzed Gillingham 5-0 in the League Cup last fall.

The news of a new contract is also welcome. Ogilvie, 21, has spent much of the past two seasons on loan at League 2 Stevenage, where he has done well. In Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs team, a loan is generally a sure sign that you are NOT in his plans for the upcoming season, which would make sense considering the state of Spurs’ depth chart and the fact that they are kicking the tires on a number of CBs this summer.

However, Ogilvie must be doing something right, as he’s signed a contract extension and is working his way up from League 2 to a loan in League One. At this stage in his development, he probably needs first team games, and that’s something he won’t get at Tottenham this season. My guess is that Ogilvie doesn’t have much of a long-term future at Spurs, but he’s a guy that can probably turn into a solid League One or Championship caliber defender, and eventually that’s where he’ll be sold if he can find his footing there.
