You’d be forgiven as a Tottenham fan if you were a little nervous looking ahead to next Sunday’s Week 2 match against defending Premier League champions Chelsea at Wembley Stadium. However, both Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas were sent off during Chelsea’s 2-3 loss to Burnley in the opening match of the season, meaning both players will miss the Spurs match next weekend.
Spurs still have significant holes in their side and have a few key injuries, and Chelsea are still a very good team, but this helps significantly. Cahill was sent off for a clumsy challenge on Steven Defour fifteen minutes into the match, and Fabregas was given his second yellow nine minutes before time. Chelsea are also without Eden Hazard, Pedro and Tiemoue Bakayoko, who are all injured, and they sold Nemaja Matic this summer to Manchester United.
This means that David Luiz may have to move up from defense into central midfield alongside N’Golo Kante against Tottenham. Luiz is a heck of a footballer and Chelsea are still a very good team, but forcing them to go deep into their bench against Spurs is an unexpected bonus in what is already going to be a very tough match.
