So we pretty much knew that Tottenham Hotspur were destined for Pot 3, but this kind of puts it in perspective at just how difficult the draw could be for Tottenham. With the pots structured as they are this year, being in Pot 3 is emphatically Not Great, Bob. It’s quite possible that Spurs could end up with one the following nightmare scenarios, or something similar:
- Real Madrid — PSG — Tottenham — Leipzig
- Bayern Munich — Atletico — Tottenham — Sporting
- Juventus — Barcelona — Tottenham — Leipzig
- Madrid — Dortmund — Tottenham — CSKA
That’s terrifying. Or awesome, depending on your point of view! If you’re one of glass-half-full people who wants to go up against the best clubs in Europe, damned the odds, then this could be a very fun draw for you.
The easiest scenario for Spurs would be something like Spartak — Porto — Tottenham — [not-Leipzig], but would likely ensure a pretty ugly matchup in the Round of 16. Either way, Spurs are almost guaranteed to go up against one of the really big boys in the group stages. And possibly two.

The Champions League group stage draw will be held tomorrow, Thursday, August 24 at 6:00 p.m. Monaco time, 5 pm England, noon in USA.
