BREAKING TRANSFER NEWS today, and it involves Ross Barkley! Matt Law, writing in the Telegraph, is reporting that hamstring-less midfielder Ross Barkley is the subject of a £25m bid... but not from Tottenham Hotspur — from Chelsea!
Chelsea make £25 million Ross Barkley bid as frantic week gathers pace @Matt_Law_DT https://t.co/PMK3YbESB3

It’s been a foregone conclusion for a while now that Spurs were going to make a last minute low-ball bid for Barkley, who tore his hamstring in preseason and is now out until at least December. But Chelsea, who are trying to shore up their midfield as well, beat Spurs to the punch and have laid down a marker for his signature.
If this bid is accurate, then Spurs have a decision to make. No doubt they were hoping to sign him for around £20m or so, well below Everton’s initial valuation of £50m from earlier this summer. So now what? Do they try and outbid Chelsea? Do they give up and look at other targets?
And god forbid, could this turn into a
ROSS
BARKLEY
BIDDING
WAR?
I don’t know what to think. I’m on record as not wanting Ross Barkley as I think he’s not the right player nor is he good enough for Tottenham. On the other hand, this transfer window has been crappy enough that I more or less talked myself into a state whereby I’ll be disappointed if this transfer doesn’t come off.
What’s a Spurs blogger to do?
