All day, Twitter’s been abuzz about something called #BeingDele, and we weren’t really sure what it was. Tottenham Hotspur’s Dele Alli was shown at various points on social media and in articles wearing a rugby outfit holding a hand-egg, facing a female UFC opponent, and wearing a cricket helmet. BT Sport was prominently linked.
Was this a new reality TV show? Is it about Dele trying out different sports and seeing if he’s any good? Is it some sort of documentary about Dele’s life up to this point and how he found football? We had no idea. But we were HERE for it.
Well, it turns out it was nothing that grandiose: just a viral marketing scheme for a new advertisement for BT Sports’ various TV offerings.
That said: it’s a pretty nifty ad.
That’s Dele, going from playing football to playing rugby at (presumably) Twickenham Ground, boxing and/or Ultimate fighting, playing cricket, and playing basketball with the Golden State Warriors. It features some cameos from a bunch of other adidas sports stars including Draymond Green, UFC’s Joanna Jędrzejczyk, rugby player Maro Itoje, Aussie cricketer Steven Smith, and British boxer Anthony Yarde.
We also get to see Dele get totally flattened by Itoje and Jędrzejczyk, which is neat.
Oh, and who’s that with the brief cameo from the stands (after Dele gets rocked in UFC fighting)?

I’m a little disappointed that it’s NOT something slightly more exciting, but it’s a fun ad, and Dele’s a really good sport in it. Only thing it’s missing is a good nutmeg. BT Sport missed a great opportunity for that.
