It’s the January transfer window, so naturally we’re all both pissed off that the media continues to link all of Tottenham Hotspur’s football stars with big money moves away from the club, and pissed that we all know we’re not going to sign anyone this window.
Well, I can help with the first part. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has come out and basically given his word that the likes of Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen, Hugo Lloris, and Dele Alli will not be sold in this window... or in this summer’s window either.
“I’m 100 per cent confident. Every single player that we want to keep, I can assure you will be playing for Tottenham Hotspur next season.
“Mauricio’s strategy has always been that if an opportunity arises that he thinks can improve the squad then we will need to look at it, but January is always a very difficult window.”
Aha, you say, I see the out: “Every single player that we want to keep.” Well, yes. But if Daniel Levy or Mauricio Pochettino want to sell Kane, Alli, Eriksen, Lloris, or any of Spurs’ other important players, then we have a lot bigger problems than just having a lot of ridiculously good players.
Despite the usual raft of incoming transfer rumors, I’m more and more convinced that we will once again not see any major signings in the January window, or at least no incoming players that will make a significant impact on Spurs’ 2017-18 campaign. But at least it looks like we won’t have to worry about any major player departures. That’s not nothing.
