By all indications, Tottenham Hotspur are extremely close to announcing the signing of PSG winger Lucas Moura. Reports are sketchy and the details vary, but most observers think that the two sides have nearly completed their negotiations. One French reporter has even gone as far as to say that the deal is done, and will be announced early next week.

Accord definitif entre les trois parties pour le transfert de #Lucas Moura annonce officielle en début de semaine prochaine par #Tottenham. pic.twitter.com/D1YFTr5sR9
I don’t know who this guy is or why he might have advance knowledge that the more established media does, but he is verified on Twitter. Still, take this with more than a few grains of salt for now. And since we’re all Spurs fans, there’s also now news that there’s an old friend waiting in the wings.
Canal+ reporter Romain Collet-Gaudin said on Twitter today that Arsenal is ready to pounce on Lucas if talks between Spurs and PSG should happen to break down. This would seem to corroborate other reports on social media that suggests that Arsenal has been in contact with Lucas’ representatives despite the ongoing negotiations with Daniel Levy.
#Lucas très très proche de #Tottenham !!!

Derniers détails à régler. Cela avance bien.#Arsenal toujours en contact mais choix numero 2. pic.twitter.com/68bw6WIHiA
This would be the ultimate banter-tastic Spurs-can’t-have-nice-things ending, but my sense is there isn’t much to worry about. With Lucas apparently wanting to move to Spurs, PSG desperate to offload Lucas for Financial Fair Play purposes, and Tottenham motivated to complete the deal, it seems like it would take a whole lot of epic fail for this not to go through at this point. And even Collet-Gaudin makes it pretty clear that Arsenal is very much option #2 at the moment.
I know, I know, I’m moving. I’ll stop now.
