Heading into this January transfer window, there was talk that Tottenham Hotspur were considering recalling two of their promising young players that were out on loan in for the first half of the season. But while Cameron Carter-Vickers was called back from Sheffield United (and eventually loaned back out to Ipswich), it looks as though Josh Onomah is going to be staying put at Aston Villa.
Tottenham will not be recalling Josh Onomah from his loan at Aston Villa this window. He's staying until the end of the season.

Onomah was reportedly sent out to Villa to get experience playing as a central midfielder after he impressed for England’s U20 World Cup-winning squad this summer. However, Steve Bruce has instead played him pretty much everywhere EXCEPT at central midfield. That led to some speculation that he could be recalled back to Tottenham.
On the other hand, Joshy’s getting some meaningful minutes at Villa Park, scoring four goals in the first half of the season. His performances have been a bit hit or miss lately, but it’s not a bad thing to go to the Championship and be a regular player.
I’d really like Onomah to come good for Spurs, so I’m completely in his corner. My hope is that he learns enough at Villa under Bruce that he can come in and fight for a roster place at Tottenham next season. It’ll be an uphill battle, though, to be sure.
