A byproduct of Tottenham Hotspur signing a pacy winger in Lucas Moura (almost done guys!) and the deadline of the January transfer window is that Spurs are going to be mentioned in all kinds of dumb rumors for all of its wide midfielders that are perceived to be on the fringes of the squad.
Like Erik Lamela, for instance. Miguel Delaney, writing for the Independent’s transfer tracker, is today insinuating that Lamela might be a last-gasp target for Southampton, who want him on loan to help stave off relegation.
LOL ok good luck with that.
The insinuation is that because Lamela’s deal has trickled down to within 18 months of expiration, Spurs might be willing to let him go. Ah, no. Erik Lamela’s contract may be winding down, but that’s almost certainly because he just spent a year injured and there’s no way Spurs would extend his contract when he’s out with a long term injury.
Also, the wording in this one-paragraph excerpts is full of mushy, mealy phrases like “Southampton want to see if there is a deal possible” and “If Spurs were to agree to let him go.” That is not reporting. That is ITK.
Lamela recently had emphatic statements in the Guardian that states that he is both happy to be at Tottenham and driven to get back into the first choice 11, and I would be shocked beyond measure if he departs the club at any point. This is a nothingburger. Announce Lucas Moura.
