Jan Vertonghen targets December return from hamstring injury

New, comments

That’s not good! But at least we have a firm target for when we might expect Jan back.

Well knock me over with a feather — Tottenham Hotspur has actually made an official update about one of its injured players! Spurs released a quick update on its official website about the injury to Jan Vertonghen, saying that he is rehabilitating well from a hamstring injury and that the club expects that he will return to full training by December.

This jives with what we’ve been hearing from other sources, including Belgium manager Roberto Martinez in that the injury to Vertonghen was more serious than what was initially thought. The fact that Martinez came out and spoke about Jan’s injury before Tottenham did irked Mauricio Pochettino and he addressed that in a recent press conference. Turns out — Roberto was pretty much right!

So it’s not great news for Spurs, as it means that they will be short one of their best defenders for the next two months (at least), but it does sound as though the timeline would put Jan in the frame for a return in time for the busy holiday fixture season. And, if I’m not mistaken, that’s also the time when most are expecting Spurs to debut the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Wouldn’t it be something if Jan Vertonghen makes his triumphant return to the squad by leading the team out in their new 62,000-seat north London home?
