Manchester United Women vs. Spurs Ladies: match time and how to watch

This is the biggest match of Spurs Ladies’ short season.

We at Cartilage Free Captain have worked pretty hard to cover Tottenham Hotspur Ladies as much as possible in recent seasons, because they deserve it. But it’s almost impossible to actually watch them play unless you live in the United Kingdom — unfortunately even top flight WSL matches aren’t regularly televised, much less matches in the FA Women’s Championship, where Spurs Ladies reside.

That’s changing today. You have the opportunity, for a small fee, to be able to watch what could be one of the biggest matches Spurs Ladies will play all season — the league match between Spurs and Manchester United Women.

Some background for those who aren’t familiar: Spurs promoted up to what is now the FA Women’s Championship (tier 2 in the pyramid) two seasons ago, and they are enjoying a phenomenal start to the season. Spurs are currently sitting top of the league, five points over United but with a match in hand. Spurs also have the current league goal scoring leader in Rianna Dean, who they purchased from Millwall this summer.

Manchester United Women are a newly formed side, but they have ambition. This is a team that is stocked with top level talent, including full internationals. They crushed Aston Villa 12-0 in their opening match, and have yet to concede a goal all season. Their ambition is to compete with the best in the top-flight WSL. They are the favorites to win the league, hands down.

But they have to get through Spurs, first. Spurs have emerged as the other title contender this season — the top two teams have the option of promoting to the WSL, provided they meet the league’s requirements of being a fully professional club.

So this match is HUGE, and we actually get the chance to watch it, since it is streamed online on Manchester United TV. This means in order to legally watch it you will need to sign up for a $5 monthly subscription (which you can cancel after the match is over). That may seem like a lot (it’s really not), and yes it’s giving money to Manchester United, but it’s about the same price as the cost of a Spurs Ladies matchday ticket. That seems cheap to me.

Maybe you can find an illegal stream of this match somewhere online (don’t post it or be banned). But come on, it’s $5 to watch Spurs Ladies. You can do it.

This is your open thread if you wish to follow along with me. I hope you do. Come On You Spurs Ladies!
