I finally got around to watching the women’s hockey gold medal match, and I wish I had stayed up! Anyway, I have some non-Olympic related rambling for all of you.
Ramble of the Day
I have a catchphrase now. It is, “That reminds of the episode of Black Mirror I was watching.”
Before I continue, I must share that I have only recently started watching the show, and accidentally started it out of order. I’ve seen seasons one and four and only just started three, so please, no spoilers.
I noticed I started saying this a lot during the ladies’ singles short programs the other day. The skater that brought Black Mirror to mind was Aiza Imambek, and while the likes of Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir made her headpiece a meme, I made a reference to the Netflix series. It reminded me of the head device Dawson’s patients wore in the final episode of season four. Her headpiece, as seen below, looks nothing like it. I probably just watch too much Black Mirror already.
Other times I brought up Black Mirror, almost always unnecessarily:
- The time I was talking about dating apps on Valentine’s Day and thought of season four, episode four with the dating app that tells you how long your relationship will last. (That one was not entirely irrelevant.)
- The time I was talking about my older sister’s friend who was expecting a child (and has since had the baby) and reference season four, episode two, where the mother puts a tracking device in her kid and it does not end well.
- The many times I kept humming the song Abi sang on the talent show in season one, episode two (which was the same song Shazia, the insurance investigator in season four, episode three kept playing) and was asked what the song was.
- The many times I told people around me about the episodes in general because I was still thinking about them.
I can’t wait to start tweeting about how Black Mirror relates to football matches one day! (I’m kidding.)
