The monthly Premier League award nominations are out for the month of January, and as per usual there are Tottenham Hotspur players who have been shortlisted for the award. Unusually, however, those players are not named “Harry Kane” or “Son Heung-Min.”
Christian Eriksen and Jan Vertonghen are two of the six nominees for the EA Sports Premier League Player of the Month, along with Manchester City’s Sergio Agüero and Kevin De Bruyne, Chelsea’s Eden Hazard, and Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson. Kane won the award twice this season already, in September and December, but he’s been in a bit of a scoring slump and didn’t make the cut this time around.
Eriksen created 14 chances from open play in January, the most of any player in the league, while Vertonghen helped Spurs’ defense to three clean sheets in Premier League play.
The Premier League Player of the Month awards are partially awarded by a public vote, so if you want to give Super Jan or Christian your click, you are free to do so.
Meanwhile, continuing a string of nominations, Mauricio Pochettino was again nominated for a Premier League Manager of the Month award in January. That award will be chosen from a group that includes Pochettino, Swansea’s Carlos Carvahal, Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola, Bournemouth’s Eddie Howe, Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp, Everton’s West Ham’s David Moyes, and Manchester United’s Jose Mourinho. But, like, we all know Pep’s gonna win again, right?
