The scheduling of this cup match means that Tottenham’s prior scheduled match at Brighton & Hove Albion will need to be rescheduled; as of yet we have not heard when that match will take place, or the prior rescheduled match against Newcastle United. You can probably expect both of those to take place midweek.
Tottenham have been drawn as the “away” side in this totally neutral site tie, meaning that while Spurs will have the small advantage of having played at Wembley for home matches all season, they’ll have to change their kits in the away dressing rooms. One imagines they’ll probably be able to handle that small change, but don’t be surprised if Jose Mourinho bitches about the unfairness of it all at some point between now and when the match kicks off.
This is the second consecutive year that Spurs have advanced to the FA Cup semifinals — Spurs fell to Chelsea 4-2 in last year’s semis in a match that was a lot closer than the scoreline indicated. Tottenham will no doubt want to exorcise those demons against United, but should they win but it’s quite likely that they will face the Blues in the finals. Chelsea will be favorites against Southampton in the other semifinal on Sunday, April 22 at England’s national stadium.
