As hinted earlier, Tottenham Hotspur will be returning to the United States this summer to participate in the International Champions Cup. The surprise is that they won’t be going to Pittsburgh after all.
Tottenham will play summer friendly matches in the following cities and on the following dates:
- vs. AS Roma, SDCCU Stadium, San Diego, California — Wed. July 25, 2018 | 8:05 p.m. Pacific (11:05 p.m. ET, 3:05 a.m. July 26 London)
- vs. Barcelona, Rose Bowl, Pasadena, California — Sat. July 28, 2018 | 8:05 p.m. Pacific (11:05 p.m. ET, 4:05 a.m. July 29 London)
- vs. AC Milan, US Bank Stadium, Minneapolis, Minnesota — Tues. July 31, 2018 | 7:35 p.m. Central (8:35 p.m. ET, 1:35 a.m. Aug. 1 London)
Two of these games are expected and had been previously announced — the Minneapolis match was leaked in Twin Cities press a week or so ago, and the Spanish media leaked the Barcelona friendly a few days later.
However, the third match was thought to be a friendly against Dortmund in Pittsburgh, something that got east coast and midwest Spurs fans excited. Unfortunately, that report was proven to be false — Dortmund will play Benfica on July 26, and Spurs will instead face Roma for the second consecutive year, this time in San Diego.
While it’s a bummer for Pennsylvania and east coast Hotspurs, this is super exciting news for west coast Spurs fans, who felt a little slighted in Spurs’ last tour to the States. It would be super possible for California fans to drive down to see both matches.
There will of course be plenty of activities for fans before and after each match this summer, with lots more details to come. We’ll be reaching out to Spurs supporters groups in each of the cities for more information, and will be posting details about things to do and activities in and around the area like we did for last year’s tour as well.
