Chinese Super League club still interested in Mousa Dembele

It’s looking more and more likely that Moose is leaving Spurs, and Beijing Guoan could be the destination.

Manchester United v Tottenham Hotspur - The Emirates FA Cup Semi Final

Sad as it is to think about, it’s quite possible we have seen the last of Mousa Dembele in a Tottenham Hotspur shirt. Numerous reports are now circulating suggesting that Moose is ready for a new challenge, casting doubt on his body’s ability to last through another rigorous Premier League season.

Early reports suggested that China could be a possible destination, and a report in Belgian newspaper HLN seems to corroborate that. According to the report, Beijing Guoan is still tracking Dembele and remains interested in making him one of six foreign players on their squad.

Perhaps equally interesting, the report also suggests that Beijing Guoan had reached out to Spurs about purchasing Dembele as early as last January, but that a deal that satisfied both sides couldn’t be reached and no formal offer was made.

There are currently two other Belgian national team members plying their trade in China: Axel Witsel currently plays with Tianjin Quanjian, and Yannick Carrasco with Dalian Yifang. While Spurs are likely going to want to move quickly on any possible deal, Dembele is already on record saying that he wouldn’t decide on his future until after this summer’s World Cup in Russia.
