There’s some decent Tottenham Hotspur related transfer news out today, maybe. Potentially. If you’re an optimist. Dutch football website Voetball Primeur is reporting today that Ajax have just about wrapped up a deal to sign center back Lisandro Magallán from Boca Juniors in a deal worth €8m.
Why is that important? Because Magallán is expected to be the replacement for 17-year old star Matthijs de Ligt, who is heavily linked with both Tottenham and Manchester City. That’s even more evidence that de Ligt is going to be heading SOMEWHERE this summer, and probably for an extraordinary amount of money. Once the Magallán transfer goes through I bet that’s when things really start getting interesting.
Last week we wrote that Ajax accepted bids for de Ligt from both Tottenham (€50m) and City (€55m), though there are suggestions that neither club has made a formal bid yet after all. He’s most definitely high on Spurs’ want list, and for good reason -- he may only be 17 but he has significant first team experience in a top league and he’s got the potential to develop into an absolute stud. I don’t know if he’s worth £50m but we said the same thing about Davinson Sanchez and he turned out ok.
