The current six-day champion on “Jeopardy” is a Tottenham Hotspur fan

I’ll take “Premier League Football Clubs” for $2000, Alex.

Answer: the most awesome football club in the Premier League.

Anyone who tuned into the trivia quiz show “Jeopardy” on Wednesday night in the United States probably wasn’t expecting the usual banter between long-time host Alex Trebek and the daily contestants to suddenly center around English football, much less around Tottenham Hotspur. But that’s exactly what happened.

It turns out that the current champion on Jeopardy, Josh Hill, is a Spurs fan, and he wasn’t shy at all about talking Tottenham with Trebek. Naturally, Spurs fans on Twitter went crazy.

Hill, a network engineer from North Little Rock, Arkansas, was more than happy to chat football a little with Trebek, who seemingly wanted to pivot the conversation to the successes of Manchester City and Manchester United. (We’ll forgive him for use of “the Hotspurs.”) Credit to Hill who didn’t bat an eye — hey, Trebek at least knew that much! — and he used “we” language when talking about Spurs’ success under Mauricio Pochettino and the new stadium opening in the fall. I don’t know if he’s a member of the Arkansas Spurs supporters’ club, but he should be.

Hill went on to win the episode, extending his champion streak to six days and adding $26,801 to his winnings. He has currently won over $144,000 on the show.

We’ve always said that Tottenham supporters are the smartest of any in Premier League fandom. Kudos to Josh Hill for proving us right. I kinda hope he’s a Carty-Free reader because he sounds like he’d fit right in here. Josh? Open invitation.
