It’s World Cup friendly warm-up season, and Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-Min is already getting things going for South Korea. Sonny scored an absolute rocket of a goal today in the 61st minute of a 2-0 win over Honduras at the Daegu Stadium. Sonny started for Korea and also captained the side.
Here’s Sonny’s goal, complete with Korean commentary!

Midfielder Moon Seon-min got the other goal, and yes, that means that both Son and Moon were in the firmament. Korea has been playing in a 4-4-2 formation that features two non-natural strikers up top — Sonny, and Salzburg’s Hwang Hee-Chan.
This is the beginning of a huge summer for Sonny. He’s going to lead the Korean side in this summer’s World Cup in a horrific group that includes Mexico, Germany, and Sweden. Sonny will then participate in the Asian Games with Korea’s U23s, knowing that winning that competition would exempt him from his country’s mandatory military service. He’ll probably get a couple of weeks rest before returning to Spurs after the start of the Premier League season.
Here are the full match highlights for Korea’s win today. Son’s goal comes about three minutes in, and he’s also got a pretty sick move and shot just before the 5 minute mark. Check it out!
