Happy World Cuppin’, Carty-Free! Did you enjoy your one day break from football? I know I did. After two weeks of match coverage, it was nice to enjoy a day at the beach without worrying about the fact that I was missing a football game.
The group stage is over, and we’re on to the real fun — the Round of 16. It’s single elimination from here on out and it starts with Hugo Lloris and France against an Argentina side that squeaked into this round by the skin of their teeth. The late game is Uruguay vs. Portugal, another compelling match-up.

Any Spurs players involved?
Hugo Lloris (France)
How about former Spurs?
Not this time.
Any transfer targets or rival players I’m probably interested in?
No transfer targets, but keep an eye on that Cristiano Ronaldo guy who probably really wants that Golden Boot.
What cool things has SB Nation posted recently?
I’m glad you asked!
- Andi Thomas described all 16 remaining teams in one word.
- “Football is coming home” — the explainer.
- Minnesota United’s Collin Martin becomes MLS’s second openly gay player, and it means something.
- Another look at Davinson Sanchez’s miracle tackle against Senegal, which was amazing.
