Tottenham’s valuation of Mousa Dembele is scaring off Italian suitors

Spurs value Moose at £30m and could get that much from China, but he would prefer a move to Serie A.

Happy Thursday, Spurs fans! Let’s start the day with a transfer rumor. Mousa Dembele is tipped to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer, and it appears that there are at least four clubs interested in signing him. However, neither of those four clubs are willing to pay Spurs’ asking price.

According to Dan Kilpatrick in the Standard, Moose has attracted interest from Juventus, Napoli, AC Milan, and Inter, but all four are wary of Spurs’ valuation of £30m for the central midfielder. There’s also interest in Moose from several Chinese clubs, and it’s thought that Spurs could get their preferred price for him from there, but Dembele would rather move to Serie A, which is complicating matters.

I don’t blame him. Italy would probably be a pretty good place for him to go. By all accounts, Dembele knows he’s at the tail end of his career and he has implied that he wants to go to a league that’s slightly less demanding than the Premier League. China would fit that bill, but would probably be a pretty big step down in terms of league quality, even if the money is better.

Dembele is with Belgium’s World Cup squad right now ahead of the World Cup, and I’m not sure how a transfer could possibly get done before the tournament kicks off this summer. It’s likely we’ll have to wait until after Belgium’s participation is concluded before we get any kind of closure on Moose’s time at Tottenham.
