It is the biggest England match since the 1990 World Cup semifinals in Italy. The Three Lions can reach the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia with a win today over Croatia, sending Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Kieran Trippier, and Danny Rose to Moscow to face their club captain Hugo Lloris and France.
But they can’t overlook what has been a gritty and determined Croatia. Led by former Tottenham star Luka Modric and Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic, the Croatians are trying to make it to their first ever World Cup final. However, they’re facing a challenge after grinding through two consecutive 120 minute penalty shoot-out wins.
Preseason preparations have already started in London for the new Premier League season, and while England are staying to the bitter end regardless of today’s outcome, they are hoping that their fitness and freshness will give them an advantage against Croatia. And if they win, Tottenham are guaranteed to see one of their own lift the trophy on Sunday.
