He chutes he scores: Spurs open investigation as intruder base jumps into new stadium

That’s one way to get a preview of Spurs’ new ground.

All eyes in London are currently on central London as President Trump visits the United Kingdom for a summit with Prime Minister Theresa May. That might explain how an intruder managed to sneak onto the roof of Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium yesterday evening and base jump into the new ground, parachuting onto the pitch.

That sounds pretty incredible! Thankfully, there’s video, recorded from Spurs’ stadium live cams.

It’s a little difficult to tell from the footage, but it sure looks like it was a base jump from the roof and not someone parachuting from above the stadium. The figure seems to have jumped from the top of one of the rooftop cassettes, deploying their chute immediately before landing on one of the sand-filled retractable pitch trays.

Spurs released a statement, given to football.london, that said that the club is opening an investigation into how the person got into the stadium in the first place.

“We are aware of an incident that took place last night that involved a breach in construction security and this is being investigated by Mace, our stadium construction partners.”

That’s just nuts! Sure, the construction site is huge and there’d probably be any number of opportunities for someone to slip into the stadium for a quick looksie, but to get all the way up to the roof with a parachute before jumping off onto the middle of the pitch, well, someone should be asking Mace Construction some pretty pointed questions at this point.

The stadium looks pretty empty though there are a couple of figures in the foreground that may or may not have noticed the jumper. At any rate, the ‘chuter skedaddled pretty quick, and I can’t see any indications that he was caught, so it looks like he got away with it. Good for him/her, I guess?

Hope they were wearing a GoPro — I pretty badly wanna see that video footage.
