O CAPTAIN MY CAPTAIN!

I don’t need to do a blow-by-blow summary of the World Cup final that just finished. We all watched it, or we will watch it on tape delay shortly. Let’s just get the important bit out in the open, as far as this blog is concerned:

HUGO LLORIS IS A WORLD CUP WINNER!

The France — and Tottenham — captain was the first player to lift the trophy as Les Bleus won their second World Cup, 20 years after their first. It was a weird match, with France not recording ANY xG in the first half of the game but scoring twice thanks to a Mario Mandzukich own goal and a penalty from Antoine Griezmann that was given after VAR review. Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappe rounded out the goals for Les Bleus.

Hugo made a couple of huge saves in the match, but had a horrible moment after a lackadaisical play with the ball at his feet gave Croatia their second goal of the match in the second half. It didn’t matter — France held on, Hugo’s error was completely forgotten, and he will eventually return to north London as the first Spurs World Cup champion since... man, I don’t even know.

I don’t have much else to say. This is your Hugo Lloris appreciation thread.
