Hey, some transfer news! But it’s one for the future. According to his Twitter and Instagram accounts, 16-year old Irish youth international and striker Troy Parrott has signed a new scholarship contract at Tottenham Hotspur.
You may or may not have heard about Parrott before. We wrote a little bit about him when he signed last spring and included him in the Honorable Mentions in last summer’s youth prospect ratings. He’s young, but is already considered one of the best youth talents to come out of Ireland in a long time. He’s already being dubbed “the next Robbie Keane” which is nice, but also I hate those kinds of designations.
That said, he’s been a prolific scorer at the youth level and is an Ireland youth international. He was an integral part of the Ireland U17 squad that made the quarterfinals of this spring’s U17 Euros, scoring three goals.
Youth development is always a crap-shoot, but there are a lot of people who are very excited about Parrott and with good reason. Don’t expect him to feature for the first team anytime soon, but it’s POSSIBLE that Pochettino might opt to bring him along in the club’s preseason tour to the United States next week. Either way, this is a kid that should be on your radar.
