Tottenham Hotspur have made their first move in the transfer market this summer, and it’s one that has been expected. Spurs announced on their website and via social media that academy graduate and defender Anton Walkes has completed a move to Portsmouth.
We have reached agreement with @officialpompey for the permanent transfer of @AntonWalkes.

All the best for the future, Anton.#COYS pic.twitter.com/OoSFzAa3Px
Walkes, 21, is a promising defender coming out of Spurs academy and made a few appearances in friendlies over the past couple of years but was never anywhere near the first team. He had a high profile (at least in USA) loan with MLS club Atlanta United under Tata Martino before spending the second half of last season on loan at Pompey, where he impressed before picking up an injury. He signed a contract extension with Spurs last summer and had one senior appearance for Spurs in the EFL Cup match against Gillingham.
It’s a good move for Anton. He’s just not a Premier League footballer, but it looks as though he could have a very successful career at the League One/Championship level, and that’s nothing to scoff at. A lot of players don’t make it that far.
The club did not disclose the transfer fee. Best wishes, Anton!
