Another transfer rumor has emerged from the wild! France Football is reporting that Spurs are currently in negotiations for the purchase of Inter DM Geoffrey Kondogbia.
That’s not a bad move! Kondogbia is 25 and had a pretty darned good season at Valencia after moving there on loan from Inter Milan for €40m. Valencia has an option to purchase him, and they’d probably excercise that, but he also has a release clause that Spurs could trigger if they want to.
Kondogbia as been on Spurs’ radar for a few years now, but Tottenham seemed happy enough with Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama as their midfield options. He’s a strong, ball-playing DM who loves a good challenge. And with Eric Dier still on vacation and Victor Wanyama injured for an unknown length of time, it sure looks like Spurs are ready to jump back into the market for a midfielder.
The fact that Spurs might be looking at another destroyer-model DM makes me wonder about Victor’s status, though. He’s coming off of an injury plagued season, and having to fly home from USA in the middle of Spurs’ tour isn’t a good sign at all.
He also wouldn’t come cheap.
Kondogbia was someone Spurs were after in the summer before he signed for Valencia. The Spanish club won’t listen to offers now and would insist any interested party pays his €80m buyout clause.

To be clear, Kondogbia is an excellent player and would improve the side. He wasn’t in the top five midfielders that I wanted Spurs to go after this summer, but I certainly wouldn’t be unhappy if he ended up in north London at the close of the window. France Football has a pretty decent reputation when it comes to French transfer rumors. Let’s see if this goes anywhere.
