Wilfried Zaha had emerged in recent days as a possible plan B for Tottenham Hotspur in the transfer window. Some reports had suggested that Spurs were eyeing a big-money move for the Crystal Palace forward in the event that they couldn’t get primary target Anthony Martial.
That may no longer be the case. Buried at the bottom of an article in the Independent about Crystal Palace’s transfer window dealings is this (which, for Spurs fans, is very much burying the lede):
Wilfried Zaha, however, will not be leaving the club and long-standing suitors Tottenham, who have previously had bids rejected for the Ivorian, won’t be making any move for him this summer.
— Ed Malyon, The Independent
I suppose you might consider this a blessing in disguise — Zaha was almost certainly going to be super expensive, and if you’re an optimist (in this window? lol) this could mean that Spurs think they have a better chance of getting someone like Martial or Christian Pulisic.
For everyone else, though — still no signings, and it looks like another attacking target is off the board. Have a great day, everyone!
