Finally, some good news! If Dan Kilpatrick, writing in the London Evening Standard is correct, then Tottenham Hotspur is very close to an agreement with Aston Villa for the transfer of Jack Grealish.
Villa are likely to reject an opening bid of around £20 million for the 21-year-old but Spurs are expected to reach an agreement with the cash-strapped Championship club before next week’s transfer deadline.
Spurs have been tracking the midfielder for weeks and Grealish has indicated he would like to move to north London. The player expects to join the club in the coming days and become their first signing of this transfer window.

Sure, we’ve heard this before and there have been plenty of swings and roundabouts in this saga. Tottenham have had an interest in Grealish ever since Villa entered into their financial difficulties this summer. Villa got purchased by new co-owners and had an injection of cash which dimmed the prospects of Grealish coming to North London.
Kilpatrick is a solid journalist with actual club sources, and probably one of the most reliable beat writers covering Tottenham right now. If he says that this transfer looks pretty likely, I’m inclined to believe him.
Grealish wouldn’t be the splashiest of signings, but he WOULD be an actual transfer, and he would add important depth to Spurs’ attacking midfield ranks. He’s good enough right now to be useful and young enough that he could continue to develop into a very good player.
Is it a done deal? Nope! Is it enough that I’m starting to get excited about the possibility of this one getting over the line? Yep!
