Toby Alderweireld was in his hometown of Ekeren yesterday, but he will be back in London very soon.
The defender was honored by Ekeren’s mayor after a successful World Cup campaign with the Belgian national team, and in between posing for photos and signing autographs, he had time to answer questions. Though he would not reveal much about his long-term future, he did tell Belgian publication HLN that he will soon begin preseason training with Tottenham Hotspur.
As translated by fellow HLN reporter Kristof Terreur from Dutch into English, Alderweireld said that he would arrive in London this weekend.

Ultimately, Alderweireld’s choice to train with Tottenham with less than a week to go until the transfer window closes in England may not change his decision, or the club’s decision, in regards to his future. Even with a rumored transfer to Manchester United seemingly still possible, training with his current teammates is probably good for all parties involved.
