The 2018 Champions League group stage draw will take place in Monaco today. This is always a highly anticipated event, especially for Tottenham Hotspur fans. I don’t know about you, but I still get giddy watching this, because part of me still can’t believe that Spurs are actually in this competition.
This is the fourth time that Spurs will have participated in the Champions League, and the third consecutive year. In 2010, Spurs made it all the way to the quarterfinals in a glorious run, defeating Inter Milan and AC Milan before bowing out to Real Madrid. Last season, Spurs finished on top of the Group of Death that included Dortmund and Real Madrid, but lost in heartbreaking fashion to Juventus in the Round of 16.
This time, Spurs may have it slightly easier. They managed to slip into Pot 2 this time around, which means they’ll likely be drawn with a whale but have less of a chance of being drawn in a truly horrific group. There are still plenty of good teams in this competition, though, and far-flung locales like Turkey, Russia, and Belgrade.
Warm up those ping-pong balls and let’s get ready to roll!

There are also rules about spreading out clubs from the same country across the schedule.
