BBC: Kovacic to undergo medical at Chelsea ahead of loan

Bar a last minute gazumping, we are in the darkest timeline.

If you were holding out hope that the rumors connecting Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic to Chelsea might not happen, your hopes have been dashed. David Ornstein at the BBC is reporting that the World Cup runner-up will have a medical at Chelsea ahead of a one season loan, probably used as a makeweight in Madrid’s attempt to sign Blues keeper Thibaut Courtois.

That’s dumb and stupid, mostly because he’d be a perfect fit at Tottenham Hotspur, but also because it gives Chelsea a potential three-man midfield of N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, and Kovacic, which might just be the best midfield in the WORLD, not just in the Premier League.

If the BBC is reporting it, it’s almost certainly happening, and Orstein is one of the most respected football journalists at the Beeb. So yeah, this is pretty much done.

I know Spurs were probably never really in for Kovacic, but it’s just galling to see him go to a club like Chelsea that has money, but who aren’t in the Champions League. It makes the Blues much better this season. I hate this so much.
