I know, we’re all probably still annoyed with Tottenham Hotspur’s loss to Manchester United on Sunday, so let’s talk about something good instead — Tottenham Hotspur Ladies. Spurs’ women went top of the FA Women’s Championship table on Sunday, defeating Lewes at Cheshunt 3-0.

Spurs got a first half goal from Jessica Naz and second half strikes from leading scorer Rianna Dean, and Jenna Schillaci to leapfrog ahead of Manchester United Women into first place in the FAWC by two points. That’s significant, but United still have a game in hand; their match against Charlton was abandoned after a heavy collision sent a Charlton player to the hospital.

That’s tragic, but it did send Spurs top, at least for a while.

And there’s more good news — Tottenham made a signing! Spurs Ladies outshone their male counterparts in the transfer window and signed defensive midfielder Emma Beckett from London Bees the day before the match. Beckett started on the bench for the win over Lewes.

Beckett isn’t only an experienced player, she was also London Bees’ club captain and their leading scorer with 4 goals. Becket made her Spurs debut in the 78th minute in the win, and looks to be a very solid pickup.

It’s not a sure thing by any means, but Spurs Ladies are doing their best to work towards a top two league finish this season. Doing so, even if they don’t win the league, would give them the option to become a full time club and promote to the all-professional WSL next season.
