The Rabiot-to-Tottenham rumors will not go away

What is dead will never die.

You all are not going to believe this, but guess who’s back in the news and linked to Tottenham Hotspur? PSG-centric Twitter account and website Paris United is claiming that, despite apparently agreeing to a free transfer deal with Barcelona this summer, Adrien Rabiot is still linked to Spurs, with Mauricio Pochettino making a last-ditch attempt to convince the midfielder to come to north London.

If you don’t speak French, the report suggests that Barcelona have a more lucrative offer in front of Rabiot, but Mauricio Pochettino is going to try and call him tonight to convince him to come to Spurs.

There are lots of good reasons why Rabiot should go to Barcelona (mostly in the form of stacks of Euros) but one really good reason why he should come to Spurs instead: playing time. Rabiot might be considered for a long-term position in Barca’s midfield, but Barca is also reportedly very close to snapping up Ajax’s Frenkie De Jong for the same position. Conversely, should he come to Spurs he’d almost certainly waltz into the starting lineup for Tottenham and could be the difference between Spurs being perennial top four contenders and being serious title contenders.

Do I really believe this rumor? No, no I do not. But despite Rabiot’s messy history he’s still an amazing central midfielder who could do a fantastic job with Spurs, and I will cling to whatever small hope is left that Poch can pull a Rabiot out of his hat. Thank you, try the veal.
