Spurs Ladies’ Rianna Dean nominated for London Football Awards Women’s Player of the Year

How about some non-transfer news for a second? Tottenham Hotspur Ladies striker and leading scorer Rianna Dean has a big feather in her cap today after picking up a nomination for Women’s Player of the Year in the 2019 London Football Awards.

Dean shares the nomination with four other players — Arsenal’s Vivianne Miedema and Jordan Nobbs, and Chelsea’s Ji So-Yun and Erin Cuthbert. It’s worth noting here that Chelsea and Arsenal are both fully professional squads playing in England’s top flight, while Spurs are pushing for promotion in the second division FA Women’s Championship but are still a semi-pro side.

Yeah, this is a pretty huge deal.

Dean has 12 goals for Spurs this season, which leads not only the FAWC but also the top two flights of women’s football — Manchester City’s Nikita Parris is the only player with that many goals in the WSL.

Dean also picked up another FAWC Player of the Month nomination for the month of January, along with her teammate Sarah Wiltshire.

On the men’s side, Mauricio Pochettino was nominated for Manager of the Year, and both Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min picked up nominations for Men’s Player of the Year along with Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Chelsea’s Eden Hazard, and former Tottenham player (and current Palace forward) Andros Townsend. Former Spurs player and manager Glen Hoddle has already won an award for Outstanding Contribution to London Football for 2019.

The London Football Awards will be held on February 28.
