DiMarzio: Adrien Rabiot and Barcelona agree terms for summer signing

On to different targets, then!

Sure looks like the Adrien Rabiot transfer saga is done now for real we’re totally serious this time I mean it. Gianluca DiMarzio is reporting on his blog that Rabiot’s “momgent” has agreed terms for his son to move to Barcelona on a free transfer this summer.

DiMarzio is reporting that Rabiot will depart PSG this summer and sign with the Catalan giants for wages of €10m/year, with an additional €10m signing bonus. That’s along the lines of what had been previously reported in various rumors recently. DiMarzio is one of the more reliable Italian football journalists out there, and he generally hits on the big stories more than he misses, so I’m inclined to believe this is accurate.

Look, I’m willing to admit I’ve been a bit silly about the whole Adrien Rabiot thing. He was always more likely to go to Barcelona than anywhere else, especially with his “momgent” pushing for a super high salary and a prestigious transfer. Combine this with the leaks that reported that Tottenham Hotspur were “below” Rabiot’s status and the idea that he could end up in North London was more of a Lloyd Christmas chance than a real chance.

But still, young super talented central midfielders that leave their clubs on free transfers don’t come around every day, and he’d be perfect in Spurs’ midfield, even if he comes with a lot of baggage. And anyway, Barcelona are no strangers to strong footballer personalities — if there’s any club that can handle a young, arrogant player with a pushy agent, it’s probably Barca.

Oh well, on to other targets then. Hope springs eternal.
