AS: Real Madrid to make €30m approach for Eriksen in January

The source is LOL, but at this point who says no?

Hey, you’re never going to believe this, but Christian Eriksen is the subject of a transfer rumor and is being linked with Real Madrid. According to Spanish outlet AS, despite virtually zero interest from big Spanish clubs in this summer’s transfer window, Florentino Perez is considering a cut-rate bid in January for Eriksen, even though his contract at Spurs expires at the end of the year.

Cartilage Free Captain is writing up transfer rumors from AS, you wonder? Doesn’t that seem a bit below their standards? It’s true! AS is far from the most reliable outlet for transfer rumors in general, and Madrid rumors in particular. We usually ignore them. However, this is the kind of thing that also falls into the realm of “plausible.”† AS says that due to a lack of (healthy) midfielders, the need for Eriksen is worth the financial outlay, even though Eriksen would happily move to Madrid for nothing in eight months time.

And from Tottenham’s perspective, while €30m is significantly lower than the £80m they were asking for him even last summer, at this point who says no? Eriksen hasn’t exactly been setting the world on fire, and various reports have suggested he is one of the players at Spurs creating a destabilizing influence within the squad, as evident by Tottenham’s poor run of form this season and since the beginning of 2019.

So is this real? Probably not, or at least mostly not. And yet, there are other rumors suggesting Spurs are ready to punt at least five players in January if they can find buyers, and Eriksen is among them. If they can get anything for him in January — even £100 and a bag of balls — it seems like it might be worth it at this point.
