As a squad refresh becomes incredibly likely for Tottenham Hotspur, reports have surfaced that the club has targeted two players as chief scout Steve Hitchen went on a scouting trip to South America.

Per Sky Sports News, Spurs are tracking Grêmio forward Everton Soares, who was part of the Brazil squad that won this year’s Copa América. He was the top scorer at the Copa América, and made the team of the tournament. He was also linked to Arsenal during the European offseason.

The club is searching for forwards, according to the report, and while Soares is one of them, Hitchen reportedly also has interest in Flamengo’s Gabriel Barbosa. He is on loan from Inter Milan, and has been on a series of loans since joining in 2016. He’s expected to rejoin Inter at the beginning of 2020, but it is unknown how much game time he will get.

Additionally, Hitchen went to Argentina and watched matches at Boca Juniors, Newell’s Old Boys, San Lorenzo, and Banfield. Currently, it is not known which players he had eyes on.
