The dust hasn’t even begun to settle on the firing of Mauricio Pochettino from Tottenham Hotspur this afternoon, but attention is already turning towards speculation about who will be his replacement. And according to at least one report, it might be the Special One.

So I’m going to go on the record right now and say that this is a terrible idea and I will be extremely upset if it happens, but it’s also important to note that this is not yet a done deal and that Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy is apparently still deciding. Mourinho is currently without a job and it’s hardly been a secret that he’s been casting long glances at the situation at Spurs over the past few weeks.

This is an extremely fluid situation, but we’ll continue to update as we get more information. For now, stay healthy and sane everyone, and for god’s sake, be champions.

Update: The reports continue to trickle in that Mourinho is in fact very high up the list of potential successors. Here’s Gianluca Di Marzio, who is pretty damn solid as far as football rumors go.

Update #2 (6:05 p.m. ET): This is happening, y’all. Reports are coming in from all over the place including Sky Sports that Daniel Levy and Jose Mourinho are in “negotiations” for him to become the next manager of Tottenham Hotspur.

Update #3 (7:05 p.m. ET): ** Duncan Castles has entered the chat **

Get ready, y’all. The Special One is coming.
