Ban international football. Eric Dier, playing in one of the first games back since his return from injury, limped off the pitch in the opening 15 minutes of England’s 5-0 shellacking of the Czech Republic, the Three Lions’ first win in the qualifying campaign for EURO 2020.

According to the BBC, Dier has been ruled out of England’s next match, another EURO qualifier against Montenegro on Monday. He has returned to Tottenham for treatment.

The article describes Dier’s ailment as a “muscular injury” which sounds dire, but could be something small. We just don’t know. What we do know is that after basically missing the past two months with appendicitis and tonsillitis, this sucks brontosaurus.

The good news is that by returning home Dier has now another week with Spurs’ physios to get healthy in time to hopefully play against Liverpool at Anfield. The bad news is that we were hoping England duty would help whip him into match shape. So much for that.
