Hey, remember when Eric Dier limped off the pitch for England and I said how international football should be banned? Well, there’s more! Serge Aurier was subbed off in the 30th minute with what some were describing as a hamstring injury during Ivory Coast’s African Cup of Nations qualifier win over Rwanda. The Indomitable Elephants won the match 3-0.
There are highlights of the match available on YouTube, but they don’t show what exactly happened to Serge or how bad it might look.
In some ways it’s not the worst thing in the world. Despite Kieran Trippier’s recent injury setback Trips was always the more likely to play against Liverpool on the 31st. However, the matches will come thick and fast at the beginning of April, and if Aurier is out then Kyle Walker-Peters steps into his place as Trippier’s primary backup. And maybe that’s okay, but after KWP’s last match, I think I’d much rather see Serge healthy.
We’ll report more when we know it, but for now feel free to throw things at your computer monitor. Ain’t international break grand?
