Report: Sessegnon to Spurs “all but done”

Sessegnon is a long-time target of Tottenham.

The season’s (almost) over, so as we ramp up the post-season content, let’s slip in a transfer rumor. The latest rumor to get hearts a-flutter in north London comes from a south London reporter on Twitter, referring to now-relegated long-time Spurs target Ryan Sessegnon.

In short, the news is good.

Aw yeah. This here’s the good stuff. Richard Crawley is a reporter for the South London Press, presumably on the Fulham beat. It’s the kind of rumor that seems both bullsh-t and plausible at the same time. Spurs have been interested in Sessegnon for over a year now, but their hopes of signing him evaporated the moment Fulham won promotion from the Championship last season.

With Fulham going right back down, Sess is almost certainly leaving, because despite seemingly underperforming for a trash Cottagers team this season, he’s still a very young player with a huge ceiling, potentially a generational talent. He also presumably has a relegation clause in his contract which means he won’t be as expensive as what he was last season. It’s not clear what he’d cost, but ballpark figure is somewhere around the £30m mark. He’ll also probably be on wages that are quite reasonable, and it’s also quite possible that his twin brother Steven could end up at Spurs as well as part of the deal.

I’m leaning towards “plausible” on this rumor, but I don’t think we’re going to hear anything concrete until after the Champions League finals, even though the transfer window opens on Thursday.
