Tottenham Hotspur are already heading to China and Singapore as part of the International Champions Cup in July, but after their trip to Asia they’ll also be heading to Germany for another preseason tournament. On Monday the club released a statement on their website announcing that Spurs will be heading to Munich to participate in the 2019 Audi Cup at Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena in late July. The other participating teams include Real Madrid, Bayern, and Fenerbahce.
Tottenham will play Real Madrid in a friendly match on Tuesday, July 30, with kickoff at noon ET (5 pm UK). Bayern vs. Fener will take place later that evening, with the finals and 3rd/4th place match happening Wednesday, July 31.
Gone are the days where Spurs played an open League 2 side at their home ground during the offseason to prepare for the rigors of the Premier League season. If things are consistent with past years, we should expect Spurs to scrimmage a number of lower league sides unannounced and behind closed doors at Spurs’ training ground, but these kinds of “prestige” preseason tournaments are likely the norm going forward.
Spurs last participated in the Audi Cup back in 2015 during which they also played Real Madrid, falling 2-0 in their first game before defeating AC Milan 2-0 in the third place match.
The Premier League season kicks off the week of August 10.
