The Women’s World Cup is being held next month in France, and after winning the last competition in Canada in 2015 the USA is once again one of the favorites to repeat. And, since it’s Memorial Day here in the colonies, it makes a certain amount of sense for Tottenham Hotspur to announce that the USWNT will be using Spurs’ Hotspur Way training facilities as their training center ahead of the competition!
Tottenham’s new training facilities include state of the art accommodations and was designed to be used by visiting clubs and national teams. Brazil used Hotspur Way ahead of last summer’s men’s World Cup. It only makes sense that the best women’s national team in the world use the best training facilities in Europe, right?
It’s notable that the USWNT has two Tottenham fans in their midst. Aly Wagner actually visited Spurs and was photographed with Mauricio Pochettino last February.
Incredible people and club. Your hospitality and generosity of time was more than beyond! Just a very special experience. Thank you! https://t.co/jCyINR6Ggj— Aly Wagner (@alywagner) February 9, 2018
Meanwhile, midfielder and multiple World Cup winner Kelley O’Hara was photographed drinking coffee in a Tottenham Hotspur kit back in 2015 and is reportedly a huge fan. There may be others that we’re not aware of, but those are two pretty, pretty good footballers and Spurs fans. It actually made a couple of us wonder whether Wagner’s previous connection to the club is what helped arrange things for USA to use Spurs’ facilities.
Either way, it’s pretty cool. USA kicks off their World Cup on June 11 against Thailand at 3:00 p.m. ET.
