Tottenham Hotspur has the support of USA’s Julie Ertz in the Champions League final

HOW CAN WE LOSE?!

Rejoice, American Tottenham Hotspur supporters, because you’ve got perhaps the best of all possible teams in your corner heading into tomorrow’s Champions League final against Liverpool. The USA Women’s National Team is currently training at Tottenham’s training facilities in Enfield ahead of the 2019 Women’s World Cup. The teams even overlapped a bit before Tottenham jetted off to Madrid to prepare for Saturday’s big match.

And from everything we’ve seen, Spurs will have the support of the best footballers in the United States tomorrow night, according to one of their stars. Here’s a message from World Cup champion and midfielder Julie Ertz, direct from north London:

We shouldn’t be surprised. Julie’s husband Zach Ertz, a tight end for the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles, is also a Spurs fan and both Zach and Julie were in London last fall for an NFL London game at Wembley, where they also got to attend a Spurs match and chat Tottenham for SpursTV.

The USWNT knows a little bit about winning big tournaments. They’re three-time World Cup winners (1991, 1999, 2015) and are among the favorites to repeat as champions for the first time since Germany in 2003 and 2007. They know what it’s like to play in pressure-cooker matches and big-time finals. One hopes that they were able to dispense a little advice to Tottenham’s players before they took off.

Ertz has joined the swelling ranks of USWNT Tottenham fans — retired midfielder Aly Wagner is also a fan, as is (maybe) Kelley O’Hara. Regardless, I’m taking this as a sign that we can officially adopt the USWNT as a satellite club. Hopefully some of that USA spirit and performance can rub off on Spurs tomorrow.
