The running joke in the world of club football is that there is no actual off-season, given that every summer is three months of transfer rumors mixed in with various international competitions. While the Women’s World Cup is front and center right now, there’s the Copa America where a certain midfielder that Tottenham Hotspur want.

According to El Desmarque, officials from both Spurs and Real Betis have met in London for discussion and possible negotiations for Giovani Lo Celso.

Lo Celso does have a new release clause of 100 million euros, but Betis have shown willingness to let him go for around 75 million. The hang-up is that Paris Saint-Germain get 20% of the profit from the sale due to the sell-on clause in the agreement with Betis. It’s understandable that Betis want to maximize their profit on this, given they have 25 million invested in the Argentine.

Reports surfaced earlier in the week that Daniel Levy had offered 40 million euros plus add-ons, which was promptly rejected. This is a shock to absolutely nobody and is the standard playbook for the Bald Ninja Jedi. Of course, we all want to see him break the usual process and get the deal done. We all have forgotten what it’s like to celebrate the signing of a new player and we may all explode if/when it happens.

Consequently, another report came out today from Estadio Deportivo that Manchester United have offered 75 million euros for Lo Celso, but in a hilarious twist, this almost feels like his agent is using United to expedite a sale to Tottenham. This is a position we’re all familiar with, but usually in reversed roles.

Lo Celso is in Argentina, as previously mentioned, for the Copa America. If any deal is agreed upon, it’s going to require him returning to Europe to complete a medical and agree to terms. As it stands now, it’s good to see movement but let’s get this over the finish line.
