Tottenham Hotspur may not have brought the Champions League title home but a few of their players were honored nonetheless. Jan Vertonghen, Lucas Moura, and Moussa Sissoko were the three Tottenham players included in UEFA’s 2018-19 Champions League Squad of the Season, a 20-man honors squad that was dominated by Liverpool and Ajax players.

Liverpool had six players on the 20-man squad, and Ajax had five which seems fair, I guess. Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo were both named, because they deserved it and also because there’s a contractual obligation to include them ever season, probably.
Look, if you asked the me from September that Tottenham would have three players named to the Champions League Squad of the Season and two of them would be Lucas Moura and Moussa Sissoko, I probably would’ve asked you if I could have some of whatever drugs you were on. But they all deserved it, and good for them.
It doesn’t take the sting out of losing the final, but it is nice.
