No, it’s not OFFICIALLY officially official, but it might as well be. That’s the gist from Leeds Live regarding the imminent transfer of Leeds United midfielder Jack Clarke to Tottenham Hotspur. The 18-year old winger, who broke into the Leeds first team under Marcelo Bielsa this season with 800 minutes of first team action in the Championship, is heading to Tottenham, with the deal expected to be announced on Monday.
Why the delay? It’s not clear, but it’s probably marketing related. The report states that by Thursday night the deal was finalized except for a few minor details, and that Clarke is signed to a five year contract for an initial fee of £10m plus add-ons. He is apparently on wages of £20k/week. Leeds have also reportedly secured Clarke’s replacement, with Helder Costa apparently heading to Leeds on loan from Wolverhampton.
I know that many of you will refuse to believe we’ve signed a senior player until you’ve seen “proof of life” or a an unphotoshopped photo of him wearing a Spurs 2019-20 shirt. And maybe that’s what’s holding up the announcement? I’m sure Clarke spent most of Friday with the media team at Spurs doing photo and video shoots and that they’re spending the weekend polishing their materials.
If the announcement does take place Monday, it will have been 517 days since Spurs last signed a senior player. Get the celebration .gifs ready. Maybe they can announce Ndombele too!
