The links connecting Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso with a summer move to Tottenham Hotspur are certainly hotting up lately. It’s pretty clear from the numerous reports in the media lately that the Argentine midfielder is a top target for Mauricio Pochettino as he attempts to refresh his Spurs squad this summer.

However, if you were looking for a quick resolution and signing, you might be disappointed. In comments given to Argentina radio station Radio La Red, Lo Celso said that he has no updates on the Tottenham situation and that he’s fully focused on getting read to play with Argentina in the upcoming Copa America.

“There’s nothing new about Tottenham, I’m 100% focused on the national team. We know how strong the English league is, but I’m not focused on that.”

Fair enough. It sounds as though there’s still a good amount of price haggling left to do between Daniel Levy and Betis over his transfer fee, though we have also heard that Lo Celso would be very open to a move to north London to play under Pochettino.

The Copa America kicks off on June 14 and goes through early July, so if Spurs can’t come to an agreement with Betis before then, it’ll be much more likely that they’ll wait to finalize everything until Argentina is finished in that tournament.

The silver lining would be that Spurs fans would hopefully get plenty of opportunities to watch Lo Celso in action with Argentina if the deal doesn’t come together soon.
