Changes are in the air at Tottenham Hotspur, so it shouldn’t be at all surprising that a number of Spurs’ existing players are starting to be linked to other clubs. Today’s rumor comes from the Manchester Evening News, which suggests that Manchester United are looking at potentially bidding for Eric Dier.

This will be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first transfer window and he’s trying to make his mark on the United squad. MEN suggests that Dier is on a list of midfield targets to replace Nemanja Matic.

It’s not the strongest of rumors. Although Dier has had a difficult season at Spurs, blighted by injury and never returning to the form he showed even earlier last season, he’s one of only four returning central midfielders along with Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko, and Victor Wanyama. Wanyama is also strongly linked away from Tottenham, and it seems unlikely that Spurs would dump both of its remaining defensive midfielders this summer.

Spurs could probably get a decent fee for Dier, and I can believe that the club might listen to offers for him, but this report seems more speculative than solid. Best to wait for now to see if any of these rumors have legs or if it’s just the flapping of wings in bat country.
